24ish-Month Milestones

Well, we're almost a couple months behind on this milestone post, but here goes anyways. 

When asked to give a "nice smile" this is what he gives us.

Height: 2' 11" (65th percentile) 
Weight: 32 pounds (88th percentile)
Head: 52 cm (99th percentile)
Teeth: All 20

To quote a guy at the park after Dad told him that Nash was only two, "Wow, he is ginormous for two!"  We don't think he looks ginormous, but he is pretty tall for is age and pretty solid compared to other two year-old kids at the park. He does have a ginormous noggin'. 

Sleep: 1 nap per day at 12:30pm. Normal nap is 1.5-2 hours. Bathtime at 6:30 followed by story and in bed by 7:00. Wakes anywhere between 6-7.  Likes to have to have a lot of "friends" with him in the crib: Girafee, Baby, Monkey, Purple, Sock Monkey, and sometimes Cow Guy makes a guest appearance.  The group seems to be expanding lately.

About a month ago Nash graduated to a big boy bed. Reese easily made the switch before she turned 2 and it wasn't for several months until she started to play bedtime games so we thought it would be good to capitalize on the young age and good bedtime behavior and make the switch for Nash fairly young as well. Wrong! Let the games begin! Mr. Nash was instantly a nightime wanderer multiple times per night and about a week later the at bedtime games also set in. We tried everything including switching him back to his sleepsack which worked for a few days until he mastered walking with the sleepsack on. After several weeks of Nash ending up in his pack n' play sometime during the night, we decided to rebuild the crib. He is happy to be back behind bars again and sleeping soundly through the night, so we are happy too.

Walking & Playing: Nash's park skills have really taken off over the last couple months. He was less agile than Reese at this age, but he is now very confident at most of the park obstacles.  He is also very strong and can hang and swing from his arms.  Wants to swing from the monkey bars like his big sister has been doing lately.  While Nash has been doing a one-footed jump for quite a while, he just began to master the two-footed jump.

Personality: When Nash is happy and healthy he is so damn fun to play with and be around. On the other hand, on the bad days Nash is SO NOT fun to be around. In that respect he is somewhat high maintenance because his lows can be VERY low and he can be very tough to manage - especially while trying to give big sister even an ounce of attention. On the other hand, his humor and laughter is heartwarming and we can't get enough of it.

Nash has always loved to roughhouse play.  Wrestling, bear hugs, jumping, and running full speed into his parents are all favorites.  Unfortunately, he also gets carried away and can hit.  We have since toned down the roughhouse play after Nash began to get in trouble for hitting his sister or kids at school.

Vocabulary: Nash's love of books and vocabulary were slower to take off than sister Reese. However, in the past couple months both have skyrocketed and lately he is a robot-like chatterbox much of the day repeating words over and over. Favorite phrases are:

• "Nacks" (snacks), "food", "gint" (drink)


• "More peez" while signing ">more< "with his fingers.


• "Nusic!" (music)

Miscellaneous things he does:

• Loves to play with cars/trucks and makes driving noises while doing so.

• Loves his Sissy. Recently sister has been having playdates at the neighbor girls' house or going on special bike rides with Mom/Dad and Nash is very disappointed to be separated from her. Sissy loves her brother as well, but appreciates some time apart from him. 

• Has very good hand/eye coordination with balls. Has made a basket with the nerf ball in the driveway basketball hoop and has very good aim when throwing balls or footballs.

• Loves to wrestle and rough house with Sissy, Mom or Dad.


• Loves music. In the car he yells "nusic!" over and over again if a commercial comes on the radio until Mom can find more tunes. He seems to love house/techno music the most as observed by his grooves when he hears such music. 

• Loves his Lilly cat. He snuggles her and plays ball with her.

• Nash is always up for eating.  If he's looking a little weak or slumpy an hour after breakfast, then he is probably up for some "Nacks". Often times he needs snacks multiple times in the morning and multiple times in the afternoon. Don't mention the "N" word unless you have some immediately ready for consumption.  Of course, he eats a lot of fruit, so he is also VERY regular; there are very few diapers that are only wet.  If you ask Nash if he has a dirty diaper, he will quickly say, "Nope!".

The little things we hope we'll never forget:

• The way he says, "kissy" and "hugs" when we leave for a bike ride or run in the most dramatic, sweet way. 


• The way he hugs and gives wet kisses.  And the way that he gives his Sissy nighttime hugs and a gentle kiss on her head.


• The way be nods his head like a little bobblehead when he eats something that is particularly tasty. 

We forgot the good camera for Nash's first haircut in late June, but Mom's phone was an OK substitute. The second photo was after Nash's second haircut last week. Pondering life and savoring his beloved sucker, while looking very dapper indeed!
