We didn't luck out with perfect weather like last year, but we still enjoyed our mini-getaway last week at the City of Rocks over spring break. We got in a few sights of the amazing rock formations though we spent most of the time at the lower campground/yurt where the weather was more friendly. The kids spent hours digging holes and burying pine cones so that when the squirrels woke up from hibernation they'd have something to eat. The site looked like a couple moles inhabited the area when we left. No toys necessary besides a shovel and a hoe. Mom and Dad read up on the California Trail history which was interesting and fun to think about while the kids dug holes. We were warm and toasty for 3 nights thanks to Daddy stoking the stove and we even brought the griddle and enjoyed pancakes and burritos. Not bad for early season "camping."
