City of Rocks

I've been talking about going on vacation for weeks now. My vision of a vacation includes a snazzy hotel with a pool and breakfast in the lobby, but there will be more opportunities for that another time... Mom and Dad had been wracking their brains for weeks to do something fun and low-budget for spring break which can be tricky for the last week of March when destinations within driving distance can still be very chilly. Dad found a couple yurts at the City of Rocks National Reserve which is 3.5 hrs away and still at around 6000 feet. We decided to give it a shot and figured if it was cold and rainy (or snowy!) at least we'd have the wood stove. Fortunately, the early season camping gods were upon us and we had the best 3 days of weather for the whole month. Low 60's, no wind, no clouds and lots of sunshine! Mom had purchased some new rainy weather games and we didn't even have to break them open.

The lower campground where we stayed was quiet due to the early season and we enjoyed multiple "hikes" together in the a.m. and after dinner. There are some really amazing camp spots nearby on the rocks, but those might have to wait a few years for family trips because Nash and I's bouldering made Mom and Dad a bit nervous. We also coincidentally ran into neighborhood friends who have kids my and Nash's age.

Grammy and Bompa, can you guess which picture reminded Daddy of a photo from when he was a little boy?

BMX Track Adventures

We had our first 70 degree day of the season so we headed to the Velopark for some BMX action. Daddy and I shredded the track, while Nash and Mommy ate Goldfish on the sidelines.

Random Silliness

This video doesn't do justice to what had happened only minutes earlier....of course the second you pull the camera out any two-year old will change their behavior. In the first few seconds you'll see Nash closing his eyes in a goofy way which was something he'd been doing for long periods of time while boogieing with Daddy to the music. Really intense music apparently! His giggles and jiggling tummy are just as sweet.

Daddy Nash Date

This weekend the weather turned rainy, so we've been trying to find ways to keep busy indoors. This afternoon, my friend Benet invited me to go to Jump Time so Daddy arranged a date with Nash while Mommy did the weekly grocery shopping.

Daddy took Mr. Nash to Goody's for some Cookies and Cream ice cream. Goody's is full of tempting treats, so Mr. Nash thought that they should take everything home with them, but settled for just a scoop of ice cream.

After ice cream, Daddy surprised Nash by taking him to a construction site full of big trucks. Nash brought his sock monkey and his toy skid steer for comfort because at first he was a bit nervous around the huge vehicles.

Nash saw a Luke Loader....
 a Grady Grader....
 ...a steam roller....
 ...and a Barney Backhoe.
Nash even stood in the bucket of the front loader. It was almost as tall as Daddy!
