First Day Kindergarten, First Day 1st Grade

Reese's first day of kindergarten was on August 25. She was excited to meet new friends and was thrilled to ride her 16-inch bike to school with Mom and Dad.
First Day of Kindergarten
Turn the pages ahead less than a month to September 22, Reese's first day of 1st grade! Little brother Nash has fully claimed her 16-inch bike and she now rides her 20-inch bike to school with Dad.

First Day of 1st Grade
Last week Reese's kindergarten teacher sent us a raving e-mail about how well she was doing with school already and wanted to talk to us about our academic goals for Reese. She said that Reese was very well-behaved, a good listener, a good helper and that she thought academically Reese was probably on the upper end of the 1st graders in all areas. Not surprising and music to Mom and Dad's ears! One option that was presented was to move Reese up to 1st grade, and after weighing the short- and long-term pros and cons, Mom and Dad came to the tough decision to move our smart girl. Reese was cautious for the first day and after only 4 weeks sadly mentioned that she would miss her new kindergarten friends, but at the end of the first day was eagerly telling us all the unique names of her new 1st grade friends. She was also excited that she now gets to pick two books from the library each week, and actually seemed less lethargic at the end of the day so we're hopeful that the more stimulating environment will be good for her. So proud of our girl!

Family Biking

Last weekend Mom and Dad decided to take us for a family off-road bike ride.  This is the same trail that I rode my skuut bike on about two years ago.  This time it was Nash's first time riding the skuut bike on dirt trails and he did great!  We all had such a fun time and can't wait to do that again soon.
Most nights after dinner we ride around the neighborhood.  Recently, my brother has been trying to do "tricks" such as lifting up his front wheel to do wheelies, and lifting his front wheel up curbs.  The other night after doing a trick on a curb he swerved off the sidewalk and crashed which cracked his wooden skuut bike.  While Dad was making repairs to Nash's skuut bike, I let him try out my pedal bike.  He did great and immediately started riding it within minutes, just like I did when I was first learning.  I'm starting to outgrow my pedal bike, so Mom and Dad recently started shopping for a larger pedal bike for me.  Until then, I'm fine with Nash learning on my old bike.
